The pulleys that I believe you are talking about would be located on the passenger side I believe?

The noise is clearly coming from the drivers side, and I did not notice a pulley on that side of the engine, am I correct or am I over lokking something?

Water pumps on that side....it was my car that had the same ticking as yours, there are pullies on that side, you just need to take off the front cover in order to be able to see them. Get a piece of tubing and try to place it in different areas to see where the noise is coming from.

Was it your water pump that was making noise, because I have read posts regarding the car temp rising to between the M-A of NORMAL on temp gauge. I read that the water pump can be the cause of this. I have this situation with my car, so I was wondering if it was what was wrong with yours?

Hopefully I can locate the noise with a hose, Thanks for advice.

Mines on the other side(passenger side) and it ended up being the harmonic balancer was shot and would occaisionally go up against the timing cover. It sounds like the classical water pump situation on your car. The Contours from factory came with a rather shoddy water pump with plastic impellers in it, they have a new one out to replace it with metal impellers. Good luck

Is there other problems that will show up if it is a bad water pump. Are there any ways to test the water pump to see if that is where the noise is coming from?
Is this a hard project to change out the water pump?
Thanks for the help.

I have heard that the water pump is a HUGE pita to get out, but i do believe that a good way to test of its the water pump is to turn the heat on, if it doesnt blow hot then its a really good sign. Search the site, i know there are articles on it somewhere, its a common problem. Mine was replaced by the previous owner.
