I have information that you guys might be interested in. I was browing thru the Ford Specfictications on the Duratec 3Ls and it seems Ford might have given the newer 3L engines a "bigger" oil pump.
This is the spec for a 98 Duratec 3L (Taurus)
Oil Pressure (Hot 1500 RPM) 138-310 kPa (20-45 psi)
This is the spec for a 01 Duratec 3L (Escape)
Oil Pressure (Hot 448 RPM) 310 kPa (45 psi)
According to these specs, it makes the same or more pressure at a lower RPM. Food for thought...
:Light Bulb going off: When I bought my 3L block, I picked up a new oil pump (thinking that the short block would not come with one). Bill Jenkins checked and the 2.5 and 3.0 pumps were the same. When we got the block, not only did it have an oil pump already on it, it was different than the one I had purchased! My block was manufactured in Jan 2001. The pump I bought went back, of course.
That whole escapade slipped my mind until I read this; now it makes a lot more sense. Maybe I need to put "super awesome" oil pump in my mod list?
