Don't think so.
Actually I have had the privledge to drive the Ford GT on BOTH the street and the track. I've even taken the creator of GT4 for laps in one.

Originally posted by Hydramatic: The C5 Z06 was far from "ordinary" anyway. Haven't you looked at the body at all? The car is a Coupe. Not a Targa, therefore it isn't even on the same line as the normal corvette. Plus the suspension is completely different, the engine is completely different... I could go on and on and on. The only similar element is interior, which even has it's own specific touches, and the Hood. That's about it. Now I understand ya'll don't like all the C5s I've been harping about, so here is something a little closer to your precious GT.
I think you underestimate the technology that went into making the C6. Check out this website. http://www.chevrolet.com/performance/
It says right on the page, -"...Second-generation hydroformed steel spaceframe with extruded aluminum subframes." -"...composite fiberglass body.
Maybe not as nice as the GT's structure, but more than a bargain for the dough. Plus, it doesn't require a blower to make its power, so another plus for throttle response and simplicity. I think you should really reevaluate the Z06 before saying it's a POS.
It still shares the same basic Corvette architecture, it uses larger bore variant of the same GM engine achitecture that it has been using forever. Its just a better version of the base car, Just like a Cobra or an SRT model. I never said the ZO6 wasn't a great car, I'm saying its not in the same league as the Ford GT.

Is that so? Here is the top 15 cars & lap times tested by TopGear on the same track by the same driver. I've added the prices for each vehicle tested in USD. 1 Pagani Zonda F 1.18.4 Approx $750k 2 Maserati MC12 1.18.9 Approx $800k 3 Ferrari Enzo 1.19.0 Approx $650k 4 Ariel Atom 1.19.5 5 Porsche Carrera GT 1.19.8 Approx $440k 6 Ascari KZ1 1.20.7 Approx $240k 7 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 1.20.9 Approx $400k 8 Ford GT 1.21.9 Approx $160k 9 Porsche GT3 RS 1.22.3 Approx $160k 10 Ferrari 360 CS 1.22.3 Approx $189k 11 Murcielago 1.23.7 Approx $288k 12 Zonda 1.23.8 Approx $400k 13 Koenigsegg C8S 1.23.9 Approx $480K 14 Sagaris 1.24.6 Approx $90k 15 Tuscan 1.24.8 Approx $85k Note prices can vary upon destination, options, etc.
Looks like its in some pretty good company for a $160K car...

You should check into that a little further, the ZO6 that ran at the ring was the supercharged "Blue Devil" mule, not a production ZO6.
Originally posted by Hydramatic: What I want to know is why Ford would make the engine in the GT the same bore and stroke, yet want people like me to think it's any different. I admit to not knowing that it was completely different. My bad. I was wrong on that one.
For the same reason why GM still uses updated variants of its age old small block chevy... its called brand recognition.
Originally posted by Hydramatic: Besides, the Corvette is a better sleeper, and as all of you SVT contour guys know, that is what really counts.
If you say so...
