Wow that Heffner is SUPER NICE. No Dispute there. However when was the last time the Ford GT won a race series. Not much of a racing pedigree huh? Not saying that racing pedigree is all that matters, but in this case it does play a factor. The GT is too soft to be a race car.
Just a really nice exotic is what it is. It just isn't as "hardcore" as the cars it is was made to emulate. Still really nice. A little overpriced, but nice nonetheless.
One more beef. Why in the heck did Ford put such a common engine in the GT? Where's the exotic part? I know it's beefed up from a "normal" cobra 5.4L, but they could have at least put a 5.0 Cammer with some turbos in it...
Wow.. the ignorance is flowing from that post. I take it you've never been behind the wheel of one have you?
To soft? On average on most closed circuits it will turn quicker lap times then its competitors. (your precious corvette included) As for being overpriced, how do you figure? Its body & chassis are made completely from aluminum, the car is hand built, and shares no structural components with any other ford vehicle. It's not a hopped up base model like the ZO6. In the class of vehicles that its in it is very reasonable priced and within its class the nearest competitor in terms of performance costs over $400k. For what the car is, its a steal.
Common engine? Only thing common is the bore & stroke, it shares nothing with any other modular V8 made by Ford.
I take it you HAVE been behind the wheel of one?
AND raced it?
Don't think so.
The C5 Z06 was far from "ordinary" anyway. Haven't you looked at the body at all? The car is a Coupe. Not a Targa, therefore it isn't even on the same line as the normal corvette. Plus the suspension is completely different, the engine is completely different... I could go on and on and on. The only similar element is interior, which even has it's own specific touches, and the Hood. That's about it. Now I understand ya'll don't like all the C5s I've been harping about, so here is something a little closer to your precious GT.
I think you underestimate the technology that went into making the C6. Check out this website. http://www.chevrolet.com/performance/
It says right on the page, -"...Second-generation hydroformed steel spaceframe with extruded aluminum subframes." -"...composite fiberglass body."
Maybe not as nice as the GT's structure, but more than a bargain for the dough. Plus, it doesn't require a blower to make its power, so another plus for throttle response and simplicity. I think you should really reevaluate the Z06 before saying it's a POS.
And that "hopped up base model" is a cam and headers away from being faster than your $150K Pantera wannabe. for about 90K less. Suck it. Ford GT blows in the dollar/performance ratio and you know it.
And the last time I checked, the Ford GT ran a substantially slower lap around Nurburgring than the new Z06. Some race car huh?
What I want to know is why Ford would make the engine in the GT the same bore and stroke, yet want people like me to think it's any different. I admit to not knowing that it was completely different. My bad. I was wrong on that one.
Besides, the Corvette is a better sleeper, and as all of you SVT contour guys know, that is what really counts.
