I'm with you. 98 LX V6, no dash problem, 4 wheel disc brakes, and I WAYYYYY prefer the 98+ looks, especially front end!
I did own a 98 Sport (Zetec) for a short while, and the only thing I miss from that car is the driver's seat.

I agree to this point, I had me 96 SE and that thing only gave me one problem which was the water pump. Unlike the 99 SVT which had the clutch replaced before I bought it, 3rd gear synchro's are going out, broken upper tranny mount (twice) imrc went out, and no matter how much stuff I replace I cannot get the damn CEL to go out. Don't get me wrong thou I love my 99 SVT but my 96 SE was the first love.
The 97 SE is as nice as the 96, and as far as I can tell, the only feature that they decontented from 96->97 was the remote fuel release, which always stuck on my 95. I did put E1 rims on my 97, though, and I'll be putting an SVT exhaust on it soon.

I like the chrome stripe too, especially on my dark blue car. I like my car so much I'm going to be depressed when it becomes impractical to keep it. I used to think my next car would be a Mazda6, but my 11 year-old car is way more tossable and has better steering feel than my wife's Mazda6 wagon. Maybe the lighter sedan is better.

I'm biased toward the 96 SE. Electronic IMRC control, OBDII, rod shifter, improved rear seat room (over the 95), locking fuel filler door (more important now that gas is going up again), ABS/TC, better looking w/o the 'bright metal' on the bumpers (IMHO), better build quality than the 98+ cars (No dash warp, etc.), best looking (IMHO) stock 15" wheels (easy to change, though), etc.
Tilt steering is the glaring omission, here.
I also wouldn't mind the 25-30 extra ponies of the SVT.
Function before fashion.

That was for the 98 year only, and all 98 Contours had them. I forgot about the window switches, my SE had the raised ones as well and I loved them.

95 SE had the most Gadgets and "features" to bad it is OBD-I
