I like sirius for my current day rock, and XM for my Classic rock (XM is in the garage, Sirius in the car).
I think sirius will out-edge XM in the end imo

I love my XM but honestly I'd rather have Sirius due to NFL games. I don't know how the rest of the channel lineup looks but that's a biggie for me since I'm a huge football fan. I got XM when I got a free receiver and a 15 months for $77. When that's up I may give Sirius a try, especially since I can integrate it into my BMW's stock radio (if I grab a newer one on eBay anyway).

What future market??
The company's squandering it's money ($50 million to oprah for a half hours show every week) while not turning profits, one of their CEO's or COO's recently resigned because of this. Their contracts with car manufacturers are ending and most of them are now offering sirius. Their current subscribers are cancelling to the point that XM will lower your bill to $3 a month, AND give you a free new receiver just to keep you. Oh, and they're just putting Opie and Anthony back on regular radio so there's really nothing you can get with XM over anywhere else. There simply is no exclusive content. And don't forget all the sports!
The only reason i'd tell someone to keep their xm is if they already had it and could get their bill reduced by threatening to cancel, just to "expand" on their music selsction. Otherwise, Sirius is the way to go.

Please, tell me that's not a highlight for XM now-a-days?
Oprah is rich. She got that way because people like her. Just because I or you don't like her, doesn't mean much. I don't care about howard stern or anybody else talking on the radio.

I've had Sirius for several years now. I love it. I disconnected my power antenna more than a year ago and don't listen to regular radio at all. My wife also has Sirius in her car and listens to it more than regular radio, but she still listens to a couple local stations from time to time trying to win concert tickets. I have listened to XM a few times (mostly in rental cars while traveling) and really did not care for the programming. The "Big '80s" channel on Sirius totally blew away the "comparable" XM offering, which is a big deal for me since I listen to that about 2/3 of the time. Oh, and Stern's arrival on Sirius didn't matter to me. I had it long before he showed up and I have yet to listen to either of his channels. Jimmy Buffet's "Margaritaville" is another story... live Buffet concerts and other great music, it is a good thing.

I've had XM for two years and I am pretty happy with it. I had Sirius in the Infiniti (built in) and I prefered the music channels on there better.
I wouldn't purchase either stock (at this point), if you want to make some easy money in the stock market right now look into energy (petroleum mostly) stocks.

I have XM with my satalite and it is a refreshing change of pace from local radio stations. But then again I do also listen to a lot of AM radio.

Sirius has always had money problems since they launched there first satellite. XM has not had the same problems.
Sirius signed a deal worth 1/2 Billion dollars for 5 years to Howard Stern. His fan base is not as large anymore and he didn't have the pull he thought he would. Oprah's deal is worth $50 million but she has an audiesnce of 27 million and she is not exclusive to satellite radio and she talks about XM on her show. On her channel are also Tyra Banks and Martha Stewart. Neither of those 3 I really care for but they do have an audience base that is tremendous.
Opie and Anthony are back on to fill a spot that Howard left and David Lee Roth tanked on. They aren't on for the entire morning like they are on XM so that means they will still be able to operate uncensored.
Sirius stocks aren't worth anything and do not show any positive trending the last I looked. XM showed similar trends but were worth more. There are only two companies in this sector and both react according to each other. If you have plenty of money, why not buy alot of Sirius stock? If they go up or split, you have a better chance to make moremoney. As I writ this Sirius is $4.87 vs. XM at $22.23.
I have always been impressed with XM. From my days in AF Space Command before XM even launched it's satellites I have always thought they were better. I was working in Cheyyene Mountain in the Space Control Center when Xm's Roll was launched and then later when Rock was launched. I worked with a guy that seperated and went out to sirius to control it's satellites and remember him talking how the company was bleeding money.
XM has better and mroe technologically advanced equipment than does Sirius.
I have had the same XM setup in my truck for almost 3 1/2 years now and will not change it for anything. Am and FM have no place in my truck anymroe with the exception of a few stations in Charleston, SC and that's rare anyway.

I'm a channel flipper. I listen to music. No talk shows, no sports, no commercials, just music. I had Sirius for a year and liked it. I thought the music channels were pretty good, but several I listened to had short play lists. W/o commercials, you can hear some popular songs every 2 hours. Good if you like those songs, bad if you don't.
I have XM at home through DirecTV, but haven't listened to too many stations. XM's country seems to be better to me than Sirius. I also like to put on Watercolors (Jazz) when I'm doing things around the house or entertaining.
As for investmenting, price per share is a meaningless number. Return on investment has nothing to do with the cost on any given day. I'd learn as much as you can about any company you plan to invest in. Learn what sharholders think about a company, not what customers think about a company. The too often do not agree.

What are you talking about?? They've had double the amount of subscriptions in half the amount of time that they predicted. Last time i checked that is better than anyone thought.

Stern's audience was also over 20 million. Are all of oprah's fans going to sign? no. Will a bunch? Maybe - but here's the zinger - her contract only has her doing 30 live minutes a week. Which means the rest of the week her station will be "filler" content. Reruns of her shows, and other junk. I wouldn't be to happy signing up to hear oprah, and getting stuff i could hear on tv for free. Learn to read between the lines.

I'd like to see anyone fill sterns spot in the amount of time CBS gave roth to do it in. Granted, I don't much care for the guy, but nobody is going to build an audience in 3 months.

Again, the boom only happened a couple of months ago. The quarter isn't even over yet is it?? (I dunno much about that stuff...) It's too soon to be looking at stock tickers. XM has been losing subscribers left and right where sirius has been gaining them. If things continue they should surpass xm by the end of the year. You talk about sirius bleeding money, but neglect to mention xm now bleeding money. A wound has been opened up in xm's market. They're giving away service and hardware (known fact!) to keep people subscribed, losing their "talent" and paying lots of money to personalities that will offer nothing in terms fresh and unique content to listeners. All of this has happened over the course of a couple of months...of course their stocks not going to plummet yet. Somethings gotta give.
You can talk about technology all you want (though i'm curious as to what you mean) The bottom line is that content sells and in terms of talk - Sirius has more personalities that radio talk people want to listen to. Stern, Bubba (the 2 most popular jocks throughout the US), Scottie farrell...and i believe they're working a deal with bonaduce. That's just sterns channel by itself! There's the BBC, Maxim, Playboy, Car talk...a bunch i can't even name.
The sports superiority doesn't even need to be mentioned.
Another thing that I personally like is that they seem to have picked up alot of former NYCdj's from Krock, KTU and even Z100. these are people i used to hear every day on the radio, and it's pretty nice to hear them again.
So basically, if don't mind hearing taped oprah and ellen degeneres shows, tyra banks' views on nothing, you hate sports, and your music taste isn't that broad then by all means go get XM! Hell, after a month you can threaten to cancel and it'll only cost you $3 a month!
