I want a credit card just to help start establishing some credit. I want one with no yearly payment and I'd prefer one with some sort of reward for spending money but it's not a must.
I've already been denied one from chase.
Any ideas?

Get a secured credit card. Usually, a local credit union will offer them. You'll need around $500-$1000 to start it out. They'll hold the funds in a savings account (earning interest) while you use the card to build credit. That's going to be your best bet. Lender's don't like to extend unsecured credit to folks with no credit history so you'll continue to have a tough time there.

From what I get from his post, he has NO credit. Starting from zero. He won't be able to get an Amex or United Visa (Chase owned).
Kremit, take a look at this link. It has all the information you'll need to know about building credit with a secured credit card, including links to where you can obtain a legitimate one. Here ya go.

Try your bank... Both of my banks offer credit cards (BoA, AmSouth).

If Chase denied you, you must be a little worse off than no credit. I didn't think they denied anyone. I got a $12,000 line from them when I was in college and that was 3 times what I made in a year.
Check your bank. They can probably either offer you a very low limit or, as previously mentioned and more likely, go with a secured card.
Also, run your credit report and make sure that you actually do have no credit. You could have something like an unpaid cellphone bill dinging you or even something as serious as someone else using your name/SSN for credit.

I've built credit through my Bank card, I just swipe it as Credit- all the purchases I've ever made, particularly online (which is the only time I ever use it) show up immediately, and as long as you have the funds- the credit is built in a positive manner.
Now, I could be totally ass backwards on the subject as to how I have established a good credit rating. In fact a great credit rating. Either paying monthly on my car did it, or as I said, the bank card usage. Regardless, my rating was 3, 1 being best and 6 worst.. iirc. From what I was told, that is pretty damn good for an 18 year old (at the time). I go through Keybank.

Actually, Chase has some of the most strict lending policies in the banking industry right now. Back in the day, it was pretty easy to get a credit card from just about any bank. However with bankruptcies running at an all time high banks have taken a step back with their generousity. Couple that with the new laws regarding minimum payments and unsecured credit is even less attractive to banks now. This is one of the reasons they couple their credit card products with their loans. They want to get their cards in the hands of borrower's with established credit. Even then, they're only offering it to A and B paper borrower's for the most part. You're right though. He should check his credit. It's cheap and will give him a good picture of what he needs to accomplish.
