So, how else do you get your 'outlook' on the world? People who leave themselves in the dark on world issues, or think that world issues do not affect them are the same ones who are the videos passed around the internet and we laugh at. Remember the videos passed around before the Iraq war and they were asked how they would handle it and the responses was 'Uh...' That will be you types who decide to leave yourselves in the dark, and then [censored] when things do not go 'their' way. Again, like JaTo, you read various sources and then make your own EDUCATED decisions....

i watch some cnn, since they are pretty liberal in what they broadcast, but i take most of what they talk about with a grain of salt. I try to watch the international broadcasts on cnn more than the americn POV stuff. I like cbc newsworld too, and the bbc. They still seem to have some journalistic integrity and seem to try to stay objective.
I have to disagree with the people that want to stay uninformed and such. Good for you if you dont want to watch some biased, silly reporting, but it kind of bugs me when so many people have said they like to stay "ignorant" when sooo many people on this forum cry out about others being ignorant when it comes to certain topics.
I like to know whats going on in the world. I feel I am media literate enough to discern when im seeing some bs or not. That brings up one thing i think she be taught more in schools - media literacy

If I want information, I will find out the way things really are myself. Just because I don't subscribe to the BS news organizations pump out doesn't mean I'm in the dark on important issues. I'll admit it does affect my reaction time to storms and such, but I've made it a new habit to visit weather.com during hurricane season.

If you were to generate a world outlook based on everything other than news, what kind of outlook would you find? Think about all of the cop dramas, for example. It is true that these are works of fiction but people who only watch these kinds of shows, sans news and real world exposure, internalize the ideas these shows propagate. It's not the news, it's mass media in general that is rather negative. I am going to go out on a ledge here and say that those who say they avoid news are lazy. It's not that you feel that all news media is bad, rather that it takes more than a channel change to find a few sources and a few different views. It is only human nature to be curious about is going on around us and around the world. You say the news media is worthless but keep in mind that is the same media that produces everything else you watch; that which most definitely affects your world view.

I'm the complete opposite. Complete news-junkie.
I read the local paper daily and browse the WSJ. I also read The Week. Drudgereport MSNBC FoxNews CNNSI Yahoo! Finance are my favorite websites.
I try and watch the local late night news and rely on FoxNews channel for my national news. PBS always has good business news too.
I can not stand being ignorant of the goings on in this world and feel it is an important learning tool for children.

Ah, so you are going to swing by Duke University, the Sudan, India after the Tsunami, and New Orleans? Ok...
