As mentioned in a thread about a month ago, I had to replace my water pump on my '95 2.5L Mystique. At that time, I replaced it with one from the wreckers due to a finance crunch at the time. Apparently that water pump was defective, which got me worried about a blown head gasket. So I replaced it with a NEW one and it was fine. Didn't over heat again.

However, I have not been able to get the temp back down to the original range of between O and R it was in before the original failed. It now hovers around the M and A range. The fans won't come on until it gets to the A/L range and when they do, the air they are blowing is so hot I can basically fry an egg with that hot air lol. But it did not go past the L so far but then I haven't not been in very heavy traffic situations yet. Highway drives it's fine. Lots of hot air coming from the interior heater.

Now that warmer weather is here, I am a bit worried about the temp going past the L mark. I have recently fully flushed the cooling system and replaced with fresh coolant and threw in a bottle of water wetter for good measure. Poured in the cooland (50/50 mix) slowly so as to minimize air blocks, massaged the hoses, etc. I also replaced the thermostat with a 180 degree unit from Parts Source.

I have checked all threads here for ideas, but I think I have tried them all.

One thing I know is that the mechanic I mentioned in my previous post replaced the temp sending unit, claiming my old one was bad (I don't see how as it was fine before the belt broke and I had to replace the water pump). Could it be that he gave me a wrong temp sensor, this giving me the wrong temp readings? Should I put the old one back in?

Anmy other ideas?

I have a temp sending unit I could sell ya, but I'd totally rip that SOB outta there and get a much more accurate autometer gauge. According to the autometer I am about about 180 degrees on the highway and in traffic I am hovering in near 210. My stock gauge doens't move an inch, and is usually positioned between R-M...
