I'm just joking with you. You asked for people's opinion on the car, but some of their advice about checking insurance rates is a good idea too.
But really, the general consesus on the ls1 from anybody that knows anything will be the same. Good bang for the buck.
I don't particularly like them. They feel cheap and seem to have a decent size blind spot. If you feel comfortable driving one, then go for it, the performance and reliability is there.

I had a 99 WS6 T/A...they are not bullet proof. Mine was a good car...severely underrated power. Mine made 326 rwhp w/ a flowmaster muffler. The early ones...were suspected to burn oil and the pistons rings weren't suppse to seat well from the factory, and the valve springs sucked on the first one...People would float valves, but that is easily rememdied from a cam and valvetrain swap...but don't just go LS6....go big or go home.
I remember an article where a guy had longtubes, exhaust, lid, and a cam and made like 370 to the wheels. Then put on a TNT wet nitrous 10 shot and made something like 525 to the wheels and close to 600 lb/tq. Broke an axle on the way home. Just find one is good shape...many are ragged on, check for nitrous hookups etc.
It was a fun car (I had it in college) but I wouldn't buy another.

They are pretty nice cars. I was also researching them as I know a lot about the LS1 and wanted a car with one. After a while I just decided to wait and save up for a 'Vette. I think I can make the Contour run for a few more years.

Compare the typical LS1 F-body's 1/4 mile times of lets just say 13.7 to be safe, even though they often will go faster than that STOCK, with lets say your typical Mustang GT. Do it.

stock 99+ gt's are frequently running 13.9's with a good driver. so... as i said... LS1 is faster, but no raping is going on.
