thats what I said to him too...i figured if my brake lines were broken...there would be no brakes.

anyways,

I went back to the mechanic today and he told me 3 of the 4 motor mounts were broken...? (how do they break?)

can anyone think of how this would cause the symptoms I described?

I'm having trouble adding this up here, and I'm no expert, so maybe I'm missing something. That just doesn't make too much sense

Have them show you the motor mounts. 3 out of 4 mounts bad would sure cause problems because the whole trans and engine would be loose and misaligned.

I'm sorry I was right. Tranny failures aren't too fun.

Did you romp on it recently? I think I chipped a tooth about 5 days before (drag strip ) the tooth got jammed and everything ate itself. Prior to the ultimate failure, I'd occationally hear a pop... followed by a whir sound (most likely the tooth getting tossed around).

yea...I give my car hell every once and a while...

I just bought it though, and it's still relatively low miles, so I'm going to invest in the euro spec transmission and torsen LSD from HMS so I dont have these problems again...

the funny thing is, I probably messed up my diff going at it with my step mom in her 2002 Grand AM GT...hahaha

i lost too...i hate having no torque (4 people in the car)

thanks for helping me pinpoint the problem

now its time to buy a beater while I wait for HMS to finish the tranny

Make sure you get the upgraded forks and keyed tower too. They're worth the extra $$.

Some others have just modified the stock tower, which would save some money. The forks smooth out the shifts, and I think they'll last longer. Might help some other stuff that I can't recall right now.
