My car has been driving me nutty these days. Misfiring every so often then running fine. I could never catch it in the act and put my scanner on it to run a test or troubleshoot which cylinder is not firing. Yesterday I finally caught it. Number 3 cylinder is not firing. It has spark and compression but it either has no fuel or insufficient fuel or maybe too much. I hope it is only the injector and not a bug in the EEC. Looks like the manifolds need to come off again. I've run different cleaners through the fuel until I'm blue in the face. Even running it in super concentrate form - low fuel and dump in bottle of Techron for 20 gallon tank. No dice.
I learned that the cylinder balance test only tests compression. It shuts off fuel and ignition then compares the balance. You have to go the old fashion way, pull the wires one by one and listen to the engine.
