thsi is the code i got when i took it in,
the guy at the shop said i needed some upgrade for my computer or somthing, apparantly its a catalyc converter issue

Take it to Ford immediately and hope that they change your Bank 2 pre-cat. The computer programming will just postpone the inevitable (it widens the band so that the code is postponed until later, maybe one year or so). Eventually the pre-cat will need to be replaced. The Federal emissions warranty is 8 years/80k miles.

well I do believe that the computer upgrade was completed on my mothers contour about a year ago and the light hasn't come back, now my car on the other hand has been giving me a P0430 on and off for the last few months, and since I have 500 miles til 80k I am just going to get headers, or at least mil eliminators ...

in all reality it shouldn't, I mean it is a Ford part so they shouldn't be able to cry that it was caused by an aftermarket part. But they are going to say the car is modified so they might give you some greif, but then again they may not, its hard to say. Like I said I know I will because I don't have the original guage cluster in my car, even though it has the correct milage on it

are precats expensive? i'm getting the same code but at 95k miles. Sounds like I wouldn't be able to enjoy the Federal Emissions Warranty

I've noticed a drop in my gas mileage. Will buying the MIL eliminators or headers regain this loss?

drop in gas milage is because of the CEL, so getting mil eliminators to turn the CEL off will improve gas milage, headers could but not if you have a heavy right foot and like how your car sounds at WOT
