IBC is damn good. There are other micro Root Beers that are comparable.
Haven't seen Hires in stores for years, but it had too much vanillin taste, so good riddance, but they were big in the extract business selling to at home hobby bottlers.
Barq's? Don't give it to your kids if you don't want them sucking up caffeine, it's the only Root Beer with that added to it, just like Sunkist is likely the only orange pop with that added to it. Barq's is big because Coke bought it to push on its franchisee bottlers, just like Pepsi developed Mug to do the same thing.
I used to work as a chemist for Dad's Root Beer Co. 1975-77. The president of the company altered the formula around 1976 but too few Dad's fans complained to get him to change it back similar to the fuss over New Coke/Coke Classic. Before that change, it had been my favorite of the big sellers.
And who can forget the "DDT": Diet Dad's and Tequila?
MSDS, SHO-shop Y, custom 2.5" catback; xcal2; 63mm TB, K&N 3530; Koni struts, Aussie bar; THaines forks, Quaife, SpecII, UR fly; DMD; Nima UD pullies; Stazi brakes; f&r Pole120 mounts. Just a daily commuter car. Silver '98 SVT E0 #3159

I love driving around with IBC... people look at ya like "WTF?" since they automatically think you're drinking beer. Not too long ago, I had some IBC cream soda (clear bottle, but amber colored ya know) while I was at work. One of my superiors were like "umm... what is that?" when they saw it. They seriously thought I brought a big bottle of alcohol to work
