I'm going to drive the SVT a little more and the F150 a little less!

So I'm paying $1/G extra from where I was 2+yrs ago. Average fill up costs me $13 more.

Each tank = 300miles

Yearly Driving Average = 12,000 miles

12,0000/300 = 40 fill-ups equals an exta $43/month or $520/yr.

I'm not going to change my lifestyle for $500/yr

I wish more people would calculate the real costs instead of listening to the media hype that no one can afford to drive anymore. Bravo!

My wife and I are still going to drive a 21mpg minivan, 14mpg pickup and a 12mpg pickup a combined 40k miles per year.

gas prices are the reason why when we bought a SUV we went with the Liberty CRD

I took care of it back in january when I move closer to work so I only have a 15 minute drive, now I fill up the Mystique about once a week, maybe two depending if I go home or go to the gf house which is about an hour and 15 from where I live now.

Even though I am closer to work and wouldn't be putting as many miles on my Contour I will mostly drive my Mystique to work as it has been getting about 29~30 mpg over the last few years

Dunno. The crappy streets in some parts of Richmond will probably cost me more in repairs than the increase in gas costs. I love the look of cobblestone but it rattles my Contour to death; I'm not sure it's coincidence that my driver-side window regulator went to pieces two weeks after I moved here. At any rate, gas costs will probably make me buy a 4-banger instead of another V-6 for my next car, probably a Mazda3 unless the Honda Fit really wows me when I drive one. But I'll keep the Tour for auto-x or rally.

I went out and bought an 06 gt mustang , 15 mpg so far but its barley broken in, im expecting a couple more mpg after i supercharge it in a daily driving situation, i have my little gmc 1500 pickup that i drive around daily , its got a 35 gallon tank so its darn expensive to fill up but itll run for 5 weeks with me driving back and forth to school so i cant complain , it sounds like a top fuel dragster but gets the gas milage of a civic stazi knows how loud it is, and for 500$ i cant complain about the truck, i just wish i wouldnt have just sold my 600gsxr, my 1000 is ok on gas

My one-ton truck was my daily driver until the last gas spike. At $3/gal it was just under $100/tank (up from $60 or so @ $2/gal), and needed 1 tank/week. So $400/mo was just TOO expensive! I re-insured the Contour (which was seeing maybe 1000 miles/year). There's no way around driving the truck as it's my business vehicle, but now I can generally make 2 weeks between fill-ups. So the $150 or so in savings per month more than makes up for the cost of insuring and driving the Contour again.

Last weekend I had to drive to Kansas City in the truck towing a trailer, and I averaged right around 10½ mpg in the truck. sucks!

I granny shift the Contour when I can remember to, and am usually in 5th gear by 30mph. Lets me get around 20-22 in town.

If I could afford the payments, I'd trade all my vehicles in on diesels and make my own bio-diesel. That can be done for around $.75-$1 per gallon. Unfortunately, unless the GMC truck craps out spectacularly, it's just not cost effective to do this yet.

I would buy a motorcycle for daily driving, but the funds do not exist for such a purchase.

This is my solution!

Not really. The 15mpg highway just doesnt cut it.

This is my new daily beater. Ride it to work an back most days. Saves me about 1.5 gallons a day.

i'm not changing anything yet. both my cars average 24 MPG with aggressive driving and my heavy right foot. i could slow down and get them both up to the 26 MPG range, but that's no fun.

considering we paid $5+ per gallon of diesel in Ireland a couple weeks ago, i think fuel is still pretty cheap here.

"long live the turbo."
