My car got keyed as well last semester while it was sitting in the parking lot of my apartment complex. It's not the only issue I have had, either - people have also messed with bikes. My roommate found his bike out in the parking lot one night, and it looked like it had been either run over or beat to hell because the frame and wheels were bent terribly. Someone stole the horns from my bike, and on my birthday weekend while I was out having fun, someone decided to kick the back wheel, which bent it just enough to affect the performance of the back brake. All that happened in a short period of time, and we decided from them on to keep our bikes inside.
As for the vandalism of my car, someone scraped a line in it, from the passenger side fender, down both passenger side doors, and across the rear fender and down to the rear bumper. Needless to say, I was pissed as hell. I had a talk with the property manager before I called the police to file a report. After I filed the police report, I filed with the insurance company for damages and got $600 to cover the repairs. Their estimate was $650, minues the $50 deductable. So I know what you're going through, and I'm damn sure living somewhere else next year.
