The point of the seatbelt is to stop you from bouncing off the dashboard, not to protect you from the airbag. I'm sure I don't need to bring up the stats of wearing a seat belt verse not wearing one. Hell, a lady got killed not to long ago near here in a 15mph parking lot accident from not wearing a belt. Can statistics be misleading? Yes. But I trust the NHTSA as a reliable source. Even if they only add 9% in protection... I'd like to have as much protection in my favor as possible during an accident. I'm an EMT, I've seen what accidents do to people- you want everything you can on your side during a wreck. Safety features in general increase in protection and effeciney as time goes on- notice how cars not even that old didn't have 3 point belts or headrests. Airbags are the same.
