Anyone that doesn't believe damage can occur could surely speak with my sister.
She rear-ended me as a passenger in a 98 Tour SE, hitting my 95LX. airbags went off, and she had her left foot in the corner of the dash at the windshield.
We came to a stop and I hopped out to make sure everyone was okay, and went around to her, then I saw that her foot was facing down while her leg was facing up.
It pushed her foot upwards in to the windshield hard enough that it flexed her ankle down beyond the limits, causing it to continue downwards (broken) until her toes touched her calves, then rotated it 180 degrees around until her foot faced rearwards, though still was flexed to her calf.
I had to carry her out of the car and hold her down while the EMS straightened it right then (it was blue and no pulse, and was the only option unless she wanted it amputated.
She now walks with 3 pins in her ankle and a 6 inch scar, no ability to run or drive a manual car, etc.

When mine went off, it blew me to te side window, i went blind from a cucusion for 5 hours. Smoke was every where inside my truck. my face had burns. it was bad!! I honestly cried when i lost my sight. When i got outside my truck it was foggy from the smoke or dust it threw out. Then shortly my eye sight went into tunnel vision. Few mins later i was blind. i was on a strecher getting yeld at by a cop in the hospital. while i was blind. I told him to [censored] off, can't u see that i am blind right now
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

I took one to the face in my 98 SVT when I hit that minivan. No seatbelt on....it rang my bell pretty good...somehow the moonroof was ripped out of the roof and the surrounding sheetmetal was trashed. Drivers side window was also blown out. Needless to say I had a headache.
People suck.

I feel sorry for everybody that has had something bad happen to them due to an airbag. The only time one went off on me in an Escort I had a fat lip for a day and burning eyes for 5-10 minutes.

+1! If you wear your seatbelt, I don't see the need for them anyway. Seem to do more damage than good. Maybe I'm wrong. Karl

Actually now they say 10-2 isn't the safest as the airbag will possibly blow your hands off the steering wheel and into the ceiling. 9-3 is the safer position. This is something I read a while back so I don't know if it is true.
When my airbag went off in my Zetec, it sounded like someone shooting me in the face with a shotgun and then scraping that rough fabric all over my face. It hurt a little, but I would imagine w/o it, it would have hurt a lot more!

I have crashed without air bags and got less damage to me then. The airbag broke my nose, one finger and gave me a burn up the inside of both arms as well as a concussion.
