I am tring to pull cams for cores and I started on the front. I had a hard time with the water pump pully. I had a harmonic balancer puller but I didnt have any nuts to get it to work and I was running out of time.
I was reading that I needed soemthing along the lines of a power steering puller and thread it in the middle. What is the bold size on the middle? Would any other type of puller work?
Thanks.

Why dont you just pull the whole water pump impellar assembly? Its so freakin' easy, would probably take just as long as trying to get off the pulley (if you even need to).

I'm sure the cams are off the car. He says he has blanks so he's making performance cams. The waterpump has nothing to do with the pulley on the cam. My FORD manual states a special cam pully puller should be used.

Yes, the pulley is just pressed on, so it can be removed. Check eBay, I got my WP pulley remover/installed not too long ago for $10! Talk to Bill J. if you are in dire need, he can sell you the tools for $90, IIRC.

Well I am trying to get the cam off the car. The cam is being retained in the heads by a piece that is cast into the head. Basically the only way to get the cam out is to remove the pully.
I guess I need to get the puller then. Thanks.

Umm that piece is held in by 2 bolts. You DO NOT need to remove the pulley to remove the cams. You sure you're capable of working on cars.

I know the bearing caps you are talking about. This isnt it. It is cast into the head on the outside edge. 2 other people were there and felt that only a pully puller would get it off.
I am very capable of working on cars. I am very familiar with SHOs. I can install cams and clutches among other things.

I guess I don't know what your issue is. If it's cast in then how do the came get installed in the heads?
