that's the gist of Aurora. amazing to see. very probably a real pic, as you can see the plane's wing.

The farther North or South, the better (depending on if you want to see the aurora borealis or the aurora australis).

Or if the magnetic field around our Earth has weakend, you will be able to see it around the world.

Or if there is a huge solar flare that hits the Earth you will see the aurora on the most weakest parts of the magnetic field.

I'll definately have to see that one day.

got to be far from a large city or town, the lights from the town/city make them impossible to see as well.
