What about a Starter solenoid?

Anyone know where these things are? How to check?

I've done some searching... Might it be a Camshaft position sensor?

Please, any ideas?

Could be the Camshaft Postion Sensor (CMP) or could also be the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP). Check the wiring at the connectors first.

Anyone have any information on a Clutch sensor? I can't find any mention of it on AutoZone's site. Part number? Another name?

You are probably referring to the Clutch Pedal Position Switch (found on top of the clutch pedal). If the switch malfunctions, it probably "thinks", the clutch is not depressed and hence you have a no start condition.

The Auto zone's I have called (I gave them the Motorcraft SWE-5020 part number to cross reference) are calling the "Clutch pedal position switch" the "Neutral Safety Switch." Does that sound right?

All right I picked up a Camshaft position sensor which I will install tonight. I also ordered a Clutch position switch and a crankshaft sensor...

Anything else I ought to check?

How about wiring? Battery to alternator, battery to starter, battery to ground as well as wire which runs between the battery and air filter housing.

I have had a bad battery not take a jump start. A good but depleted battery should jump start, if all wiring is in order.

It is not likely that it would happen while you were fixing something else, but it is defiently possible. That is exactly what happen to me when I replaced the fuel pump on my Escort. My starter went which obviously was completely unrelated to my replacing the fuel pump.
