While looking for the source of my engine bay ticking (passenger wheel well area, see this post ) I found an oil leak. The pics are taken from under the car looking up at the rear exhaust manifold/altinator area. Could these two things be related and what would be the most likely source of the oil leak?

Wow there is alot of corrosion/rust around there. I bet your leak originates from a leaking rear valve cover or timing cover gasket. Clean the area good and after a week of driving check again and when you see a dirty spot from which you ahve already cleaned then that might be the origin.

Yeah enough corrosion with the Canadian winters. It's an akward place to clean because it's only accessible from underneath but I guess I could try.

Does anyone else have something to offer? I was hoping some of the resident experts would chime in.

I appreciate the excellent advice, my concern is that it is very difficult to see the source of the leak from below because of all the obstructions. I will try of course and report back.

I am by no means an expert, but if the leak is really hard to find, you can always go with dye and a blacklight. They sell the dye at Kragen and you can get a blacklight anywhere...
