Congrats on what sounds to be a very sharp car. Enjoy and happy motoring!

Two things I've noted:

1) 17.5 gallon gas tank. Less fillups, sure. But when I do fillup it's like a mortgage payment.

2) At 80 mph on the highway, the tach (yes - there is a tach with the automatic) is about 2,500 rpm. That compares with about 3,450 in the SVT - so hopefully will get decent highway gas mileage.

I noticed the owner's manual calls for a 5W20 Premium Synthetic Blend motor oil. What's that? I used Mobil 1 in the SVT and was hoping to get away from it with this car. Is this some sort of half dino/half synthetic oil?

At least I can keep my stock of FL-820-S filters, this car uses the same filter!

At least you're not stuck using 93 octane anymore.

FWIW, the Cougar has a tach too. The rpm are roughly the same as what you're getting (highway).

I'm pretty sure the Cougar also came with this oil.
We switched to Mobil 1 5w30 because Mobil 1 didn't have a 5w20 at that time.

So you're thinking of going to dino oil?

Yes, I was thinking of it. Either that or the "blend". So, you have no trouble with 5W30 Mobil 1 in the Cougar?

most 5w-20s are semi synthetic. Over on www.bobistheoilguy.com Motorcraft 5w-20 has been giving some phenomenol wear numbers. I switched from M1 5-30 to MC 5-20, and I'm very happy with it. No loss of performance, and the engine is much quieter. You have no fear and nothing to lose by using MC 5-20. Plus its spec'd by Ford for your vehicle...a win-win combo.
