How do attendance percentages affect the skill levels of teams?

But just over 100% still ranks them 8th in the league.
And they have the highest road percentage because yahoos in every city become Wing fans for one night, despite being "diehard" fans of their local team. I can't believe how many Lightning supporters wear red when Detroit comes to town. The crowd seems to cheer louder for Red Wing goals than Lightning ones those nights. It's just like all the fools that wear pinstripes when the Yankees come to town. Buncha clowns...
Plus there's always the draw of wanting to see your team beat the team with the best record in the NHL...
Believe it. Most lightning fans are northern transplants who are fans of their original home town team. They are now lightning fans because of location.
My thoughts on the 100% thing is anything over 100% capacity can't be looked at as better than any other, because at that point you are comparing attendance/ticket sales policies. The I-75 corridor and stretching into the Carolinas, you will find an awful lot of Wings and Tigers fans because of 760 AMs signal strength. When Aaron Ward signed with the Hurricanes, 3 of the 4 houses he looked at had a "Red Wings" room.
The Wings have been the best team in Hockey for 15 years and counting. It doesn't matter if you are talking about regular season or playoffs, there isn't a single team that could be called better. Not to mention that their GM is considered (with Pierre LeCroix) to be one of the two best in the league. Owner is widely acknowledged to be the best hockey owner. They have the most valuable organization in the NHL. They weren't expected to be any better than a team that would finish in the middle of the playoff pack because of the salary cap casualties but here they are with the best record in the league. Yzerman may be the best on ice leader in recent decades and maybe ever? They were and currently are, the best team at finding talent from the rest of the world. They have the player that is being credited with creating the new NHL (Shanahan). Probably the best young Duo in the league. Certainly, and unquestionably the best defensive player and maybe the MVP of the league in Lidstrom.
Now if we talk about adversity...They have had 1 death to the best defensive player on their team at the time (Konstantinov), 1 death and revival of their best young defensive player, and 1 career ending injury to potentially the best defensensive player in hockey history.

They're still going down in the playoffs... And my point, in a nutshell, is that if you're a season ticket holder and consider yourself a "fan" of one team, you better damn well not be seen in an opposing team's jersey, ever. Once you've put on an away jersey, your "commitment" to the home team has ultimately expired.

If you buy a season ticket, your entitled to wear any jersey you'd like. Even a Lions Jersey...not that anyone woudl do that...
