Had exact same problem on mine, and I figured to try replacing the following part. This was after tightening cables.

this thread, and shows the grommet that can cause issues. I wondered if that tiny bit of give was enough to translate to the additional slack. Other than trying that, I couldn't find any information to suggest an alternative treatment.
Never got round to it though as the car was totalled before I had a chance.
