It is a great gun no doubt - BUT
Its universally known to not be that nice of a gun right out of the box. Upgrades are super easy to find but things like quality barrells cost you an arm and a leg.

A 10/22 with a nice trigger, extractor, stock, barrell is going to run $600 +++++++

The R22 looks better and better every day.
uses proven Ruger action (mags fit too)
used AR15 trigger group and pistol grip
H&K G3 butt stock
Full length mount rail
Custom Barrells . .

No way; trigger/action work is all a 10/22 really needs for relatively solid accuracy and that shouldn't run more than $150-200 extra at most.

The stock barrel holds up fairly well at moderate distances; I used to be able to split cattails 50 yards using iron-sights on my 10/22 that only had the above done to it.

you say no way - but you just added 100% to the cost of the gun. $200 for the 10/22 and another $200 for trigger work? you are already over the cost of an R22 with AR triggersets.

Stazi - I actually plan on buying a mauser for my next mil surplus. I want to find a spanish 7.62 NATO mauser - family being from spain and all. im not an AK person in the least, but I DID heavily look at SKS's before I got my Ex-PU
