It is a great gun no doubt - BUT Its universally known to not be that nice of a gun right out of the box. Upgrades are super easy to find but things like quality barrells cost you an arm and a leg.
A 10/22 with a nice trigger, extractor, stock, barrell is going to run $600 +++++++
The R22 looks better and better every day. uses proven Ruger action (mags fit too) used AR15 trigger group and pistol grip H&K G3 butt stock Full length mount rail Custom Barrells . .
No way; trigger/action work is all a 10/22 really needs for relatively solid accuracy and that shouldn't run more than $150-200 extra at most.
The stock barrel holds up fairly well at moderate distances; I used to be able to split cattails 50 yards using iron-sights on my 10/22 that only had the above done to it.
