So....i have read up on moosing, and i have read the random threads about engine whining. And I haven't come across one like this. I'm sure it exists though. I have a 98 SVTC with just under 100K. When I am in the drivers seat and it's idling at 750rpm, i cannot hear this whine, but between 750rpm and around 1500 it's quite loud and pronounced, and increases in pitch according with RPM, after 1500, perhaps the whine intensity remains the same, but the sound is drowned out by the engine/intake growl. I did some "troubleshooting" (note the quotes), and i found that from the outside, with the hood closed, you really can't hear it at all, with the hood open, it's there a little more, but not enough to pinpoint where it's coming from. But in the cabin, it's quite loud, all the time. it's definitly not the stereo interference, and it doesnt' quite sound like the "foghorn" that moosing is (so says the FAQ), i don't think it's the tranny, since it makes the noise regardless of being in gear or not. drivability doesn't seem to be affected, but then again, i don't have another svt to compare to. could this be the power steering pump after a serpentine belt replacement? for some reason i though that you would only hear the PS pump when you're actually turning the wheel. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
