And people laugh at me when I say I'm a Mopar nut...
The Neon SRT-4 is already a legend. Nobody discounts a Neon with a Y-pipe and a goofy Eclipse GST-style wing anymore.
Except maybe the Lingenfelter guys, but still...

Rumor is that Stage I & II kits will not affect power ratings. The car is a year away from the showroom, aftermarket even further off.
Smaller wheels may not fit over the brakes. For performance, the only reason to use larger wheels is for larger brakes. But large wheels are popular for asthetics, not necessarily for performance braking.

The brake thing makes sense, but I highly doubt ANYONE would buy a stage upgrade kit that doesn't do anything...

I keep looking at that issue of C&D and I can't figure out why people are calling this thing ugly. It's chunky and aggressive, sure, but not everything has to be smooth and contoured. I just wonder if it's going to be as unrelentingly loud as the last SRT-4 on the highway. I wonder if anyone ever bought one and decided to sacrifice a little of that power by installing a muffled exhaust.

Who said it would not do anything? I said power may not be affected.
From Edmunds
"Dodge insiders told Inside Line that the turbocharged Caliber SRT-4 will be launched in spring 2007. Although pricing has not yet been determined, Dodge intends to keep the high-performance Caliber well under $25,000. And while Mopar will offer a slate of performance accessories for the SRT-4, insiders tell IL not to expect turbo upgrades because the vehicle is already in the top range of its capability. Suspension kits and other goodies will be available, however."
My point is that the car is a year away from launching and aftermarket performance will follow. That's a long time. Rumors are not always true.

I have. I think the car looks better in pictures. If you see it from the rear, you'll realise it's really tall and narrow. It really does look like an SUV Too bad, I was hoping it would me closer to the Focus in dimension, not the scion Xb

Well, the typical SRT-4 buyer doesn't get it for handling, though the old Neons were pretty darn good at it from the get-go....
So taking that into consideration, a stage upgrade kit that doesn't improve horsepower and torque isn't worth buying unless you take it to the track. OR just like really bad ride quality from your daily driver....
I do understand the power limitations, but that simply cannot be correct. The old Stage III kits put it WELL over 300 hp. On the OLD engine. If the Caliber SRT-4 can only make 300 hp safely, I'd be mighty, MIGHTY disappointed by Mopar.
But this IS Mopar we're talking about here...
So I say the engine could probably max out a little shy of 400, but I would count on transmission upgrades for not much more power than what it makes stock.

I'm thinking the "stage kits" Aaron is talking about are suspension kits and if thats the case, good, because the car is more than likely going to need an "altitude adjustment" and if they (Mopar) offer spring/struts, sway bars, etc for it, more power to them Its nice to see an OEM serious about making a potent car even more potent, not making a good all around car, well, a good all around car and nothing else

I have to agree support needs to be given to divisions like SRT and TRD for offerring performance factory options.
