Yes, do this mod. That way you will be familiar with the wires down there.

Yup, all you should need to do is, tap the positive wire from the gauges into "B" and tap the negative wire from the gauges into "C." I'm almost positive this is how I did it, but like I said, it was about a year ago.

A. Orange/Black - ALWAYS +12 volts
B. Orange/Yellow - +12 when fog lights are ON
C. Black/Red - GROUND when fog light switch is turned on
D. Orange - +12 when headlights are ON
