Thats another option. But this public relations degree came up too. Because in lamens terms, I wanna do the stuff they do on the show The Apprentice haha. May sound dumb, but thats it. And I wanted to know if that public relations is PART of a marketing degree, or whole nother degree all its own...

I would agree more with this.
Do you want to be the guy that makes the ads, or the guy that gives the general direction of what he's looking for in an ad?

The guy that does more of giving the general direction of "how to" make the ad, or what the company is looking for in the ad to pretty much, market it.

You should really change your sig...you're*
Anyways I am an advertising major at MSU and I debate getting a second degree in marketing or PR. I think you should meet with advisors from the Universities you are planning on attendning and speak with them. GPA matters too!

I can fill you in on a bit more of the WMU stuff... My advertising degree consisted of only a handful of "specialized" classes (Media Planning, Copywriting) that were part of the general marketing curriculum, but they were required for the A&P degree. It's basically just a specialized marketing degree.
I'd recommend getting a Public Relations degree and either double major/minor in Journalism or Marketing. A PR degree will open a TON of doors that a Marketing degree on its own will not. I'm sitting on an Advertising & Promotion major with a double minor in Business and Sociology... trust me, I wish I'd have gone in the PR direction.

So public relations is the more "hands-on" marketing where you have to think of how to promote, and/or come up with ideas to appeal a product to a certain demographic?

As hard to admit as it is I would recommend against a sole marketing degree. I have a BS in Marketing and a minor in Business and a Business degree would get me a lot further. Marketing is a lot like Psychology were its pretty much useless without a minimum of a masters degree. You can get a retail management job with companies like Best Buy and Target butnot the types of jobs you would think you should get. I graduated just over a year ago and started in the finance industry becuase the marketing field is plagued with glorified sales jobs

PR is getting the message out there... you'll come up with your "plan of attack" as to the best way to promote it.
Think of it this way: you're a PR rep for an auto company... new product is coming out and you have to sit down with your team to devise a plan to get media coverage. You know like in Car & Driver where they'll do their "Sneak Peek"-type thing with like an H3 out in the desert or whatever? Manufacturer sets those up for product launches and invites the media out to drive the product and (hopefully) write articles on it to increase the exposure.
