it doesn't happen everytime but sometimes when I start my car up the coolant light stays on for like 5 or so min. until the engine warms up... I was told that it's prob. just air in the system, and needs to be purged out.... If this is so, how would I purge the air out and/or do I need to do a coolant flush??? I did flush the coolant in October and this problem only started like 2 or 3 weeks ago..
any help/suggestions you guys have is greatly appreciated.
Thanks -Keith

Add a pint of coolant. That should take care of it.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

If that doenst work its most likely the sensor like in my car. Its annoying but i dont mind it too much. Too poor and in college to get teh sensor... esp because ford makes you buy the entire coolant tub too.

I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the level as it is just above the fill line now, and I have had it go below before, and when that happened the light stayed on.

Check for holes in the hoses. My upper radiator hose had a pin sized hole and it caused thee EXACT problem you just described.

The sensor is faulty on the duratecs, the level needs to be above the full line before the sensor doesnt see that its low.

.
Usually once I get the car moving it jostles around the coolant and hits the sensor and it turns off.

Or the level goes up a little as the coolant heats up and expands.

Faulty? I don't think so. It needs to be just at max or slightly below. If that doesn't work there is other problems.
