If I remember correctly, Cartman has a Boxster. No offense, but nothing special if you ask me. Sure, it's a Porsche, but it's also only a Boxster. They're not rare at all and the performance is slightly better than an SVT Contour.
Um.. Ok? Where do I start?
I never treated my SVT like ****. I sold my car in mint condition with 50K, just shy of 4 years old. It still could pass for a new car. I also had every single piece of paperwork that ever came with the car, including all the work done to it (maintenance history, etc). Just because the car was driven alot in the beginning (23,000 miles the first year alone), doesn't mean that the car wasn't in mint condition.
My point is that the resale on the car sucks. It will not improve in 20 years. The days of that are long gone. A 2000 Cobra R, yes. A 98-00 SVT Contour, no. Buy a cover if you're worried about driving it everywhere. Cars get dings and such, it's a way of life. It's still cheaper to get such damaged repaired, than pay the cost of a 2nd car, additional insurance, etc.
I'd rather have a car that get recognized by hardcore auto enthusiasts than a car that will make someone say, "Dude! That's a Porsche. He must be rich." I'm not saying Cartman bought the car just because it's a Porsche.
I consider myself a major car enthusiast and I would rather not have a Porsche or a Mercedes than buy a Boxster or a C Class.
I didn't ask you. You guys are funny. I ran a PCA DE event last weekend, and consistantly put down better lap times than the slew of 996s, 911s, and 944s on the track. Only thing in front of me was a 993TT, an 02 996, and an 01 996TT. Not bad for
only a Boxster. Oh wait, mid-engined, perfect 50/50 weight distribution, ideal gearing, maybe Porsche actually had a clue when they made the car. Comparing it to a C-Class is just idiotic. Compare it to an SLK, if you're going to try. Not a bad car, we've got one of them too..
Let's not forget I owned an SVT, so I think I could compare the 2 cars, having driven them both on the track quite extensively, as well as on the street. No comparison. Handling, braking, acceleration, don't kid yourself.
BTW, if you're a true auto enthusiast, you wouldn't have made that comment. When you can afford to drive a Boxster, maybe you'll understand. I originally had a deposit on a 99 C5 Convertible, but after driving the Boxster for 10 minutes, I went back and got my money back. The car is that good. It was never built to be king of the drag strip, that's not Porsche's intention. It's all about the handling. 3 years now, and it still brings me a smile everyday when I fire her up and take off. :p
