I used to be gung ho about the Fusion until I drove one and got up close. The interior is so damn boring. I actually tried a Milan because I think the looks are a little better. The interior quality was just terible. I don't know if the car I drove was built on a Friday or what. Trim pieces had mold tabs still on them. The pattern on some trim was smeared. Drive a Mazda 6 and then drive a Fusion/Milan. I thought they would be close because they are based on the same platform. The Fusion has a wider wheelbase. The 6 was the standout winner in my book in style, features, comfort, quality, and value.

I think the Milan looks the best outside of the 6. I can agree that Ford is trying to make one for every garage, however I really hope this doesn't turn out to be like the Taurus and become primarily a fleet vehicle. And as for after market, it was like pulling teeth to get mods available for the contour, especially for a decent price. With the 6 in the mix hopefully the fusion will be a bit easier to mod.

I found time to test drive the fusion as a result of a Ford gas card promotion. I'd have to agree with Todd in terms of the interior. The interior was completely tacky. In terms of the ride, it was alright. I had a hard time adapting to the vehicle. I kept having issues with line of sight through the rear. I had high expectations for this vehicle, and don't get me wrong, I still like the appearance of the vehicle, however I wasn't impressed with it behind the wheel. Now I just have to find some time to try the 6.

That's exactly what I was thinking - I'd prefer the Mazda 6 to any of those cars.

Sure it's not the best car but it has a low price, some performance, and good looks. The hyundai is a hyundai and I don't think you get an extra $5k worth of car for the $5k more you pay for the honda or toyota.

Fusion is'nt too bad of a car. It's slowly growing on me.
The Sonta looks the best out of the four imo.
And look on the brightside, at least Ford is being represented. Edmunds didn't bother to test the G6/Impala/whatever dreck GM is pushing lately.
edit: oh yeah where is the M6 ? M6 GT Sport = sweet.

And pretentious show-offs.
Stop drinking the Ford kool-aid. The car clearly is a cut below all of it's japanese and korean contenders. And it is not because there is no nav option. How can a car that has a base price of 18K not have ABS standard?
As todras stated, the use of interior materials is horrid. The interior looks like it was designed as an afterthought. The cookie-cutter radio sticks out like a sore thumb in this day of highly integrated stereo units.

Ford kool-aid? LOL Until I bought my Contour, I hated Fords with a passion. I'm not saying that there aren't other car's I'd buy over the Fusion. I love the Sonatas. I like Jettas too, even though they're pricey. I'd also consider a G6. Besides, I don't think the Fusion is really positioned for direct competition with the Camry and Accord. That's the 500's job seeing as it's the Taurus replacement, more or less. Just because two cars have V6s and four doors doesn't mean they're meant to compete with each other.
As for integrated stereo units, I really don't care for them. Stock radios are pathetic, over-priced junk. All the highly integrated units do is jack the price up and make it more difficult to install a quality audio system. So give me a cookie-cutter radio any day, I'll take the money saved and sink it into paying down the principal on the loan.
And I stand by my "NAV is for wussies" comment, regardless of what they drive.

Both the Fusion and the Five Hundred replaced the Taurus, not just one or the other. The Five Hundred is aimed at the older crowd, and straddles the market between the Taurus and the Crown Vic. The Fusion is aimed at the younger to middle-age crowd and aims at the Taurus and the would-be Contour (if they still had one) market. Of the two, the Fusion is most definitely the one most aimed at the Camry and Accord not the Five Hundred. The primary Toyota competitor to the Five Hundred would be the Avalon not the Camry.
