What would be everyone's choice for a RWD project car for AutoX and track use?

I keep leaning towards the Nissan 240, but it seems that most have been "bitten" by the 2fast2furious bug, and tho I love Datsun 510's...I'm wondering if its a platform that is just too long in the tooth.

Bmw 3 series?

510's are WORK. I'd say a 204sx or an AE86 if you can find one in good shape.

My dad loves tinkering with their '91 Miata ... dunno if that's the style you're going for though.

Beat me to it... more or less the perfect start to an auto-x and/or track project... plus old ones are still cheap

Yeah, there's really no better car than a Miata for the perfect combination of fun driving and cheap/easy-to-find parts.

If you're thinking of a 3-series as a project car, go for a Mercedes 190 instead...

Is there a reason you're only looking at RWD? The Civic/CRX/Integra can be a decent project car, too. The market for their go-fast parts has been so big for so long that it's very easy to put together something nice (You can decide if you want to take advantage of the huge bling market as well )

+1 for the Miata. I've never driven a more balanced, reliable, user friendly automobile.

+1 on the AE86 Corolla. You can't beat them for the price.
