I think thats really high! I got a control arm last week for 125 (from ford), and it was 1.6 hrs of labour (@ $72/hr)
The labour you were quoted for that control arm was not reasonable. That or my mechanic really likes me and totally undercharged me.
I was in the same boat as you. I came very very close to buying a newer car. But I was talked out of it, and I figured 1000 in repairs is cheaper than 20g's worth of newer car. Since fixing my car, I've fallen in love with it again.
