By 2005 I was averaging $1500 every six months to keep the Contour on the road (a few times that was a $1300 or so bill from a week's stay at the stealership). When I was feeling the auto start to bog on cold starts and shift hard between 1-2, I got rid of the car. It was my first car (so to speak) and I was extremely attached to it, but it was really more economically smart to get a car loan on something more reliable.
