When the alternator on my Mustang bit the dust, it kept running my battery right down to nothing. As someone already mentioned, the diodes can go bad and short out the alternator. Drains the battery in no time.
On my car, when I touched the (I think positive) battery terminal (especially after driving it) it burnt my finger it was so HOT !!
