ok well im going to try and make this short, but i doubt it will. so i got a 96 contour 2.0 5 speed off my cousin since he blew the motor. i figured, hey quick rebuild and be done. well the head bolts were seized due to the heat as with most of the cam cap bolts. so i replaced the engine with one out of a 95. i had to swap the knock sensor, but everything else worked. well i later found out it wouldnt start, so i diagnosed everything as far as i could and couldnt narrow done the problem. so ford garage had it, and screwed it up real bad! the only thing good they did was make it start, which it wouldnt have lasted long if i just drove it. you name it, they screwed it! so after 3 hours fixing their mistakes (wasnt going to take the chance to make them do it and i needed the car that day) i found more issues.

#1: when i tried to drive it, going into 5th gear it rejected me. i kept trying, but no go. i then had the idea to lift up on the lever (like for reverse) and got it into 5th. so that box under the car that controls the reverse lock out, could this be my issue? oh yeah this WASNT a problem before it left my house, so ford garage swapped parts on me!

#2: the car drives okay, but not great. i then found it keeps throwing a lean exhaust code. dont ask for which code it was because i cant remember. i have since replaced the o2 sensors (car was burning coolant so old sensors were going to be bad), fuel pressure regulator, and fuel filter. the filter and sensors were replaced before i did a pressure check. after the pressure check, i found it was 5 psi low at idle, and dropped under throttle while driving. so i replaced the regulator, but its still doing it. so my guess is it has to be the fuel pump. anybody know a place where i can get a good pump, i was thinking about a walbro. dont care if i have to wire it in.

#3: no here is something strange. so i need engine mounts. the car jerks bad when shifting gears, and clutch chatters. i have looked for mounts and can find the front one, but everytime i ask for a rear, no matter where, they say it cant be found. they say the autos were the only to come with a rear mount. well then im shocked, how many new cars still run a clutch and need to have the gears selected manually in an auto? if you dont catch it, its sarcasm. so did the manual trans come with a rear mount, if not why does mine have one? also are there inserts i could buy so i dont have to get the mounts?

i have put a fortune into this thing, and it still doesnt run proper. i have to fix some wires under the hood, because they are cracking (which i told the ford garage about because of the recall, but nope got NOTHING!). im just fed up, its suppose to be a daily driver but cant even drive it. i also cant get insurance or tags on it right now because someone messed up my driving record so i cant get a job. so yeah im doing great. but thanks in advance for any help, sorry its soooooo long.

Welcome . 95 engine OBD I, 96 engine OBD II. Not sure if you might need to swap the PCM.

thats what i was told before. but the thing is, im running the obd2 system. the car runs fine otherwise. fuel pressure just drops off under throttle. all obd2 equipment is hooked up and running fine.

I doubt that you need to worry about the OBD I or II issue as long as you swapped over whatever parts were necessary to hook up all the OBD II sensors. You did use the 96 exhaust manifold so that the exhause has two oxygen sensors didn't you?

I does sound like you still have a few issues to work out to get the shift linkage to work properly. The mounts may have something to do with that.

The fuel pressure readings do indicate that you don't have enough fuel reaching the injectors. Before condeming the pump you should check/replace the fuel filter.

yeah, i swapped the engine into the 96 car. exhaust stayed the same. i swapped intakes too, just because i had time to clean the other.

i think im going to pull that reverse lock out box out from under the car and see if there is a way to fix it. and i know the mounts are causing me hell, because now it wont go in reverse for more then 5ft before it kicks out of gear. i have to hold the shifter back hard to keep it in gear.

now the fuel issue, i have replaced the filter. thats why im pretty much left with the fuel pump.
