Raising children can be one of the most rewarding experiences anyone can ever experience. The fact that our society devalues stay at home mom's (and dad's for that matter), says a lot about just how hollow our values have become IMHO. My W has been a SAHM (Stay At Home Mom) for the past nine years, and she has had a very rewarding experience. Sure it's difficult at times, just like anything else in life. Only now that all three kids are in school full time is she starting to look into working outside the home (or possibly inside the home via a home business).

In any case, if she views raising children as one of her primary goals in life, then more power to her, giving life and seeing children grow up is one of the most precious gifts we are blessed with.
