Just when the hiccups in my car had gone away for some time a new one pops up. Problem is I can't catch the car in the act to run a test. I am usually dressed in my suit or on the way to something important when it does it. On mild to heavy acceleration when the car is in overdrive a cylinder misses every so often. Drop a gear and nail it the problem goes away. Sometimes at idle I feel a miss. When I stop somewhere and restart, it's gone! Yesterday it ran flawlessly, today it was stupid on/off. I guess I need to replace the plugs again or the coil pack? Wires are Magnacores. I hope it's not an injector because I don't want to take the UIM off again...

Next time, scan it right after it happens. There is probably an intermittent code stored.

No codes. If I had OBDII it would catch it.

Sounds like plug wires.

I do believe the OBDI also can store codes, I would still check it out

It can store codes but it needs the necessary taps to test the system. When tour #2s coil went bad there were no codes - just a full time miss. And later when the wires went bad there were no codes then.

Plugs and misfires
Try this topic, there is a link on page 2 that shows carbon tracking on plugs, or maybe you have a loose ignition wire or poor grounding at the coil pack. Also, silicone grease the inside of the boots where they seal over the insulator.

Plugs are the only thing I don't know about. I had the coil pack out a few months ago and the wires to/from LV/HV are good.

Those carbon tracks caused trouble twice on my sister's 1995 Mystique 2.5. At 40, 4th gear, moderate throttle, the car would surge but would accelerate. Higher revs were OK. Have you ever changed the plugs? If not use Motorcraft or Autolite Double Platinums, clean the plug wrench so the insulators don't get dirt on them.

Just changed them a 1/2 hour ago. They probably had some leakage because the base is discolored. Tips were light gray which is normal burning. Will find out when I go out again if it fixed it for good. I helped friends change plugs so many times on the V6 I can do it blindfolded. Before I changed them
I drove the car 40 miles and it didn't miss a beat. Filled my tank. Stupid gas was 2.19 last time I filled the tank, now it's 2.45!
