Wife needed a comfortable family sedan to cart the baby around in. Just got this today.
It drives surprisingly well. The 7 speed SMG does take a little bit of getting used to. You have to lift throttle just slightly if you want to smooth out the shifts. It automatically does blip-throttle RPM-match downshifts though, which is nice. Handles pretty well for a tank. Overall, very competent.
whats wrong with the tach? i sat in the new M5 at a recent ar show and the orange part started at 7800 rpm and red came in at 8200

It was cold. That moves according to the temperature of the engine oil.

I think it depends on how much time the car has had to warm up. After a cold start it changes. Of course I may be wrong but I rememeber seeing something like it on C&D TV in another BMW.
I still think it's ugly, but under the skin it's one hell of a nice car!

Yeah, it's kind of a funky looking beast. However, it's not quite as ugly as the Depressed Whale (6 series) or the Malformed Clown Shoe (M coupe).
Trunk is huge and flat, very usable. Can probably fit 3 bodies in there.
Grip seems good, even with those cr@ppy Continental ContiSportContact 2 tires. Balance is ok, though I prefer the weight more rearward.
The automatically adjusting wings on the seats is bizarre. They squeeze in to hold you in place whenever you corner.
