Cops can use any reason to search your entire car.
That can be disputed all day long, but it's the truth. If they pull you over for one REAL reason, that is definitely a reason. Though usually they can make up a reason if they want. Of course you can fight it in court, but remember the judge is on the cops' side and the law is basically left for him to interpret.
