Looking around for DC-DC converters for a carputer, they make some that have a jack that you can buy a seperate 12V AC brick to power it from...
I dunno about laptops, though... It's going to be hard to find anything if you don't have a mainstream laptop. Like my Dell requires 19V and 90W from the supply, while some Toshiba might need 17V and 60W.
