The Contour has great styling, but if I had one bit of negative criticism, I would have to say that the roof line is just a teensy bit too high. This is most noticeable when the Contour is parked next to some of the Chrysler sedans, which have lower roof lines and appear to be more "low-slung" by comparison. Has anyone on here ever seen (or even heard of) a Contour with a "chopped top"? You know, like the early hot rodders did to the sedans of the late forties or early fifties. I know that this is considered to be a major modification, involving extensive metal work, glass work, and interior trim. The fact that the Contour is a four-door further complicates things, but I believe it would give this car better balance and a more "sinister" look. I wonder how much it would cost. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Like Goonz said, its probabuly better to lower the car with a nice suspension kit then to chop the top (and most likely more affordable.)

I understand what your saying about chopping the top, but I have never noticed it/paid attention to it. I think they look fine as is, but to each his own... if you have a large bank account.

Good Lord....that'd be a nightmare!

As long as we're talking about cutting the top off, anyone have any thoughts about cutting the roof and installing a factory moonroof from a donor car?

Would it be more cost/time effective to swap out the entire roof and drop it in as a whole, or would it be wiser to just cut/swap the moonroof section itself and transplant all the mechanicals?

one thing you can do to help "lower" the top visually without the hassle of actually chopping the top is blacking out the b pillar.

many have done this (i did) and it is astonishing how improved the whole car looks. most of todays modern designs have the central pillar of a four door sedan blacked out.

try it, you'll like it!

You can see part of another Silver Frost parked to the right of me, the B-pillar isn't blacked out on that one.

thanks, luca, for the pic (and nice side by side to boot!). thats exactly what i'm talking about. svt roof doesn't "look" nearly as tall. you'd be amazed how much better your stock ride height contique will look with this simple mod. and it is so subtle- not many will even notice.

The black out looks SWEET! I'll have to try that.

As fas as an aftermarket sunroof, I'm wanting the full retractalbe moonroof.
