Actually no. The Cord L-29 and the later Cord 811/812 were the first American FWD cars in the late '20's early '30's.

Actually no. The Cord L-29 and the later Cord 811/812 were the first American FWD cars in the late '20's early '30's.
But he said "mass produced." The Cord's were small-run cars that only the very wealthy could afford. When I think mass produced, to me that means any Joe Schmoe w/ a little bank can pick one up. Following that definition, the Toronado definitely is the first.

The answer is the "Toro" and it started production in 1966. Jay Leno has one, but its all Corvette underneath  If you get a chance to check one out at a car show, do so because its WAY ahead of its time, especially the speedo
