No way will a 6.0 liter 400 hp car get 25 mpg. The automatic even has a $1300 gas guzzler tax. Go here www.gtoforum.com and they will answer your questions.

Have you ever actually owned an LS1/LS2 equipped car? I have, and I can tell you 25MPG is easily attainable on the highway using stock gearing. Heck, my 452rwhp modded LS1 SS Camaro got 21-23MPG highway mileage, and that's ~525HP at the crank with 3.73 gears through a Moser 12 bolt.

Doesn't the GTO cruise around 75-80mph in 6th at 1800rpm?

Have you done any research on installing the short throw shifter in the GTO's? My buddy owns an 04 GTO. Not sure about the 05+ model years but on his 04 GTO the bolts for the shifter assembly are accessed from underneath the vehicle, not from inside the cabin. I couldn't believe it but wanted to pass this tidbit along as installing a short throw shifter requires a lift on the GTO's. Sucks huh?

I've not looked at the gear ratios but all stockers will use pretty tall gears for 5th/6th overdrive. My SS 6-spd ran about 1750RPM at 80MPH stock, it ran around 2000RPM with the 3.73 gears at 80MPH IIRC.

IIRC for 05+ GMM Ripshifter underneath, B&M top only.

Almighty:
Bushings are the weakest part of this car. To tighten up suspension, replace about $500 (DIY) worth of bushings/mounts and you should be good to go.

You should look for a 2005 and see what kind of price you can get. Very minimal differences between the 05 and 06.

You don't know what you are talking about. It all depends on how you drive the car. LS1/LS2 cars can EASILY get damn close to 30mpg on the highway if you don't drive like an idiot or you decided to stay in 5th gear instead of 6th. My buddy just picked up a LS2 GTO, let me see what kind of mileage he pulls on the highway. Heck my LT1 that I used to have which wasn't stock, pulled like 27-28mpg on the highway and that car was 11 years old.

I was planning on the B&M, however I have a lift in my garage, if I can ever get the damn Buick of of it (I really should post pics sometime), so either one I choose, access is of no concern to me.

I have only located one new '05 within 200 miles of me, and it's an auto and I ain't touching it. As for a used '05, I am getting about the same price or slightly less than a new '06. With the differences in pricing I may as well go new.

Thanks for the info Pete, I had not read about the bushing issue yet. I had read quite frequently about the spring blocks being left on. That could have been the issue with the car I drove over the weekend.

I never said anything about averaging 25mpg. I merely stated that on the highway it is easy to average 25+ mpg. When I had my Z28, I averaged nowhere near 25mpg, it was more like 16-17mpg, but on the highway I still pulled 25-26mpg pretty easily. I never really got crazy on the highway so I had no problems getting those numbers most of the time.

Exactly. There's a difference between what is done vs what can be done. Know facts, think, then post.
