Yeah, I'll chime in as another Texan, but against Iringtwyce.

The Contour (95LX) handled BEAUTIFULLY on ALLSEASONS in a blizzard in North chicago in 2000 and 01. One of the BEST handling and most stable cars in the snow that I've ever been in.

i've had two csvt's and i like them both. i also know first hand that if you are in an accident they will take one hell of a beating and still let you walk away. on the snow issue i cannot help you as i have lived in sunny so cal my entire life.

I really like mine. Because of their crappy depreciation, I think they're one of the best values out there on the used car performance sedan market.

yeah it is one of the best cars i have had. The car runs in my family, me being the third sibling to have one and both my brother and sister loved theirs. I just got mine and am in love with it. Just look around and wait till you see with low miles and in good condition. I waited for almost a year and finally found my 98 with only 60k on the odometer.

I love my SVT. It's the most fun to drive car since my Opel GT I had when I was in the service in Germany. I've had it for almost 2 years. Got it with 47k on it and now I'm at 74k. That's what SZ05, 2 trips to the Ford Natl's in Carlisle, countless trips to Michigan, and screwin around on a sunny Sunday afternoon will do to your mileage. I do love to drive my SVT.

great great cars, i've driven an svt multiple times having a good friend that owns one! mine however not being an svt, is a great reliable car that i have had hardly trouble with if you keep it in good running condition.

..but warning, i've noticed these cars have a knack for being broken into. WHY? who knows..

good luck to you, hope you find a good deal and tell us if you decide to get one!

I suppose that depends where you live. My Contour was none too reliable but I certainly never had problems with theft even with a decently nice aftermarket head unit in it.

As for winter driving .. man oh man did the car do beautifully!! Even with snow tires on my Maxima I still miss the wonderful predictability of the Contour (with only all-seasons at that).

Driving school my nuts. Perhaps its the allseasons, but I've driven plenty of other cars, without snowtires, that were much better than the SVT in the snow. I had two old (circa 1990) Buick Century's that would go anywhere on crappy old tires, and were literally unstopable with snow tires. The GrandAm I had wasn't nearly as good as those two cars, but it was better than the SVT. I'll say this for the GA though, it was tail happy, the SVT is pretty predictible in comparison. I guess I'm thinking more of staight line acceleration and braking capablities. Again, maybe its the tires, maybe its the low gearing. But there is no way its the BEST in the snow.

The contour is great in the snow; its the shoes that are on it...if you have High Performance Summer Tires, no [censored] it sucks in the snow...
