Additionally, I don't see any 'smart' country officially uniting with Iran. Syria / Jordan may funnel fighters into the counry or vice versa, but that is just asking for more trouble

Don't Russia and China get a large amount of oil from Iran?? isn't that why Russia is really not working too much with us on sanctions and such? While not smart countries per say, both would be scary if they decided to throw in on the side of Iran and the oil that's there.

From a military aspect, Russia's military has been neglected since the collapse of the Soviet Union and China, although a large military, does not have a 'real' capbility to project the power as we do.

From an economic standpoint, yes, that is probably why both are dragging their feet in the situation.

Remember though, for most of the population they are pro-US, where as the governmetn is not.

Russia's also playing a big role in setting up Iran's nuclear plants.

Stazi hit it right on the nose. Crusades will start and all countries will unit with one another. Not as a grand of sacle as medieval times but you get my point.

This is gonna be a long fight ahead of us. USA i believe will be in shaky grounds for many years.
Too many enimies now.

We are pushing our weight around too much.

Wow. Sounds just like the big talk Saddam was blathering four years ago.

Iran has been running the wild side of the thin line these days with threats to end Israel and against us. What I don't understand is why they are talking smack now when they know we have two more years of a Republican president who will write their words down on paper and stick it right back up their arse.
They have been feeding the terrorist activities in Iraq the whole time. I can't tell you how many weapons were Iranian made or stamped with Iranian markings that were confiscated when I was over there. There is more than that going on too.

Well, all I can say is it's a target rich environment over there....
Won't be as long of a fight as you think if they keep the media OUT and pull out all the stops on weaponry. Iraq sucks because the military is hamstringed with the limits placed on weapons systems and how far we can prosecute the war. You haven't even seen war or carnage yet. Pray that we are still in the high ground and hold the advantage to such a degree that the President still feels compelled to place restrictions on his troops. Otherwise, ever seen pictures of the "Road of Death" coming back out of Kuwait back in '91?

Russia is now one of the largest oil exporters in the world, if not the largest! Do a little reading on the subject, they have so much oil it isn't even funny and haven't gotten around to proving out all their oil reserves with the latest oil extraction tech.
They will oppose us only because of a balance of power, China and France too.

Problem is he'll pretty much have to do it himself, since our troops are kinnd of busy ATM.

Unless you mean we should simply nuke Iran. That would certainly solve the problem of their weapons program, but it would cause a few other problems at the same time

The ground troops are busy. Steeda's beloved Air Force and the Navy can sure put a hurtin' on them though...
