These idiots currently running Iran are showing the world why they shouldn't be trusted with a hand-crank generator, much less a nuclear power facility...
Iran is completely aware that they are provoking and escalating this situation and with an enemy (the US) that can turn their military machine into confetti within a matter of weeks, even with our forces camping out in Iraq.
Remember, who says we have to stay in Iran and rebuild it? Our present record sucks at this for a number of reasons (some of our own making, some of it not), so if recent history has taught me anything, we just need to cause absolutely as much instability in Iran as we can and let the political vacuum fill up by itself.
This would solve the issue of having the current Iranian regime meddling with Iraqi affairs (a major problem in Iraq, given the export of arms, radicals, propaganda and instability that Iran is sending), so I see it as a win-win situation...
I'm being a bit tongue-in-cheek here, so to digress from this little fantasy, I would suggest that we ask the following questions:
1) Why would Iran play such a game of brinksmanship if they are well-aware of our military capabilities and our complete lack of tolerance of such a radical country getting a hold of the "bomb"? What do they hope to gain?
2) Why does one of the most energy-rich countries (oil) in the WORLD have to resort to using nuclear power, if it's not going to be put to military use?
Finally,
3) Does anyone actually think for a second that Israel is going to sit on their hands while Iran starts to enrich mass amounts of Uranium?

I'm beginning to think that the "Devil we don't know" (i.e., Iran as a US bombing range and another political quagmire in the Middle-East) may be preferable to the "Devil we do know" (i.e., a nuclear-armed Iran).
Maybe we could do something akin to what Britian tried in Iraq almost a century ago and talk to the Turks to get the Kurds in Iraq and Turkey to set up shop in Iran, after we pulverize their military into the ground...
God I miss the Cold War.
